Intermusica tours the London Mozart Players to China for four performances with conductor Gérard Korsten and an all-Mozart programme.
The musicians also documented the tour online and their experiences of each concert. Playing to a sold-out hall at Beijing’s National Centre for Performing Arts was a particular highlight: “the atmosphere is electric and the orchestra responds. Jetlagged, dehydrated and knackered the players are magnificent.”
While each night of the tour saw the orchestra perform to an audience of different characteristics, the number of children at each concert was striking and something the players said was “wonderful to see”.
At the end of the tour, the musicians reflected on a series of concerts that “transformed” the orchestra:
“The musicians are tired but happy. Everyone has played an important part in its success. The tour has transformed the orchestra. It’s given it confidence and enthusiasm for the future. LMP is back in business and it’s here to stay. A new management, a new vision and a sense of purpose...
The team at Intermusica, especially the wonderful Erin and Grace, took it all in their stride. Calm, good humoured and comfortable in the company of tired, emotional musicians they were consummate professionals. Thank you Intermusica, we love you! Can we do it again please...?”
