Symphony

  • One of the finest orchestras on the international stage, the London Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1932 by Sir Thomas Beecham. Since then, its Principal Conductors have included Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Georg Solti, Klaus Tennstedt and Kurt Masur. In 2007 Vladimir Jurowski became the Orchestra’s Principal Conductor.

  • The London Philharmonic Orchestra has been performing at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall since it opened in 1951, becoming Resident Orchestra in 1992. It also has residencies in Brighton and Eastbourne, and performs regularly around the UK. The Orchestra frequently tours abroad: highlights of the 2014/15 season include appearances across Europe, including Iceland, and tours to the USA (West and East Coasts), Canada and China.


    The Orchestra broadcasts regularly on television and radio, and has recorded soundtracks for numerous films including The Lord of the Rings. In 2005 it began releasing live, studio and archive recordings on its own CD label.

London Philharmonic Orchestra tours to the Netherlands and Belgium with Marin Alsop and pianist David Fray.

The all-Beethoven programme comprises his Symphony No.7, Leonore Overture and Piano Concerto No.3 with pianist David Fray. Alsop writes:

“I'm so looking forward to touring with LPO and David Fray, one of my favorite orchestras with one of my favorite soloists! Besides great music making, they are people who know how to enjoy life and each other. It doesn't get much better than that: great music and lots of fun!”

Netherlands with Sinaisky
Europe, October 2011
Intermusica tours the London Philharmonic Orchestra to the Netherlands with conductor Vassily Sinaisky and exciting young Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi.

They perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor. The programme also includes the Die Flerdermaus Overture by Johann Strauss II and Dvorak Symphony No.8.

Spain with Marin Alsop
Europe, January 2009
Intermusica takes the London Philharmonic Orchestra on a four concert tour of Spain.

Marin Alsop conducts the Orchestra in Pamplona, Zaragoza, Castellón and Barcelona with programmes including Brahms Symphony No.4, Stravinsky's Firebird Suite and soloist Jonathan Biss performing Brahms Piano Concerto No.1.

Marin Alsop and Jonathan Biss will give a concert with the Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in London in mid-January in a programme of Mozart, Stravinsky and Ravel.
