BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Programme highlights include quintessential British repertoire such as Vaughan Williams Symphony No.5, Britten Four Sea Interludes and Elgar Enigma Variations. Denis Kozhukhin joins the orchestra for his debut Chinese appearance, performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No.5 ‘Emperor’ and Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2.

Concerts include a late night performance ringing in the New Year with a Scottish-influenced late night performance in Shenzhen.

The Orchestra began the tour in Chennai with a talk and composition workshop with MacMillan at the KM Music Conservatory, followed by children's concerts and a performance at Chennai’s Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Concert Hall. Following this the tour moved on to Delhi and then to Mumbai for performances, workshops and outreach events. The final performance of the tour took place on 6 April at Mumbai’s National Centre for Performing Arts.

James MacMillan conducted the orchestra and was joined by soloist Nicola Benedetti for programmes including Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides’ Overture and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.1.
