  • Established in 1916, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s mission is ‘to make music of the highest quality and to enhance Baltimore and Maryland as a centre of cultural interest, vitality and importance’. Resident at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the orchestra performs over 130 concerts per year and has one of the most extensive education and outreach programmes of any US orchestra, including its award-winning ‘OrchKids’ project designed to inspire children in during & after-school activities and affect positive social change within the Baltimore City communities.

  • In 2007, Marin Alsop was appointed the orchestra’s 12th Music Director, the first woman to achieve such a title at a major US orchestra. Since then Marin has taken the orchestra on to new artistic heights, expanding the orchestra’s recording catalogue including Grammy Award winning recordings and widening interest in and access to classical music through education and her strong belief that ‘music has the power to change lives’.

Europe, 2018
Intermusica brings the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop to Europe in summer 2018 to perform at some of the world’s most distinguished music festivals. Repertoire will include works which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Marin’s former conducting teacher, the composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.
