Symphony

  • The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, founded in 1918 by Ernest Ansermet, is one of Europe’s most historic ensembles with one of the largest discographies of any symphony orchestra. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the OSR has been known from the very beginning for championing the works of contemporary composers and has premiered many of the twentieth century masterworks by composers including Debussy, Britten and Stravinsky as well as Swiss composers such as Honneger and Martin. The orchestra’s home is the Victoria Hall in Geneva where all its concerts are broadcast on Swiss Radio.

In its first British performances under Järvi, the orchestra were joined by pianist Boris Berezovsky for concerts in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

The tour culminated at the Royal Festival Hall where the orchestra and Järvi performed Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6 'Pathétique', Grieg Piano Concerto and Silhouette (Hommage à Gustave Eiffel) by Arvo Pärt.
