  • Internationally renowned from their work with Music Director Mariss Jansons 1979-2002, the Oslo Philharmonic today continues its reputation for top level performance under the baton of Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko.


    Intermusica began working with the Oslo Philharmonic in 2012 on a tour to the Grafenegg Music Festival featuring percussionist Colin Currie. Since then we have continued the relationship bringing this world class orchestra to European Summer Festivals including the BBC Proms in 2013 and Edinburgh International Festival in 2015 and to Asia in 2017.

  • The Oslo Philharmonic can trace its roots back to the 1870's, Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen, and was established under its present name in 1919. At its home venue, Oslo Concert Hall, the orchestra is annually giving 60-70 concerts, most of which are broadcast by Norwegian National Radio. The orchestra also has school- and outreach programs and perform outdoor concerts in Oslo drawing audiences of up to 25,000 and nationwide touring programs.


    Vasily Petrenko first conducted the orchestra in February 2011 and went on to be named Chief conductor from the 2013-2014 season, an appointment that has received great national and international attention and acclaim.

Spain with Simon Trpčeski
Europe, January - February 2019
The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and their Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko, perform concerts across Spain, joined by Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski as part of their 100th anniversary celebrations.

Trpčeski will perform Brahms piano concerti Nos.1 and 2, paired by the orchestra with Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade - his symphonic suite based on the collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, One Thousand and One Nights - and Sibelius' Symphony No. 5. 

Beginning in Barcelona, performances will take place in the Palau de la Música, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and the Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos in Zaragoza.

EIF 2018 | Petrenko and Davidsen
Europe, August 2018
Following the success of their appearance in 2015 the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra return to the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2018 for a concert of Strauss and Prokofiev with Vasily Petrenko and Lise Davidsen.

The orchestra open with Strauss' tone poem, Don Juan, following which Davidsen will join them in a performance of his Four Songs Op. 27 before they return to the stage for a performance of Prokofiev Symphony No. 6.

Europe, August 2015
Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko conducted concerts at some of the most prestigious festivals in Europe, featuring Nicola Benedetti and Vilde Frang.

Oslo Philharmonic appeared at the Edinburgh International Festival for a resident weekend with Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti performing the Glazunov Violin Concerto as well as Russian and Scandinavian repertoire. In Spain Petrenko conducted two sold out concerts performing masterworks of the 19th century, Brahms Violin Concerto with Vilde Frang and Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4.

The Oslo Philharmonic made a triumphant return to the BBC Proms in 2013, under the baton of Vasily Petrenko, starting his tenure as Chief Conductor for the 2013/14 season.

The orchestra performed two programmes –featuring Baiba Skride and Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland, in repertoire including Beethoven, Bruckner and Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances.
