Throughout the 25/26 season in Trondheim and elsewhere, Hickox will conduct a characteristically wide range of repertoire and will perform with soloists such as Vilde Frang, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Lawrence Power and Paul Lewis. Season highlights include his debut with the Dresden Staatskapelle, Frankfurt Radio and Hamburg Symphony orchestras, the Oslo Philharmonic in their annual televised summer concert at the Royal Palace and with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Return guest engagements include the Deutsche Symphonie Orchestra Berlin, the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and BBC Philharmonic orchestras. In previous seasons, Hickox has conducted orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Dresdner Philharmonie, Danish National Symphony, London Philharmonic and BBC Symphony, many of whom are re-inviting him in the coming seasons.
Hickox is equally committed to the opera house and in 25/26 will make his debut at Dutch National Opera conducting Weinberg’s The Passenger, a revival of the Tobias Kratzer production that received its premiere at the Bavarian State Opera (Munich) in 2024. He will also conduct Floris Visser’s production of La boheme at Glyndebourne in Autumn 2025. Recent opera productions have included Candide at Norwegian National Opera, Hänsel und Gretel at Staatsoper Hamburg, Tosca at Opera North and La Traviata as part of Glyndebourne’s Autumn season.
Hickox studied music and composition with Robin Holloway at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, and conducting with Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music. He was Assistant Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic from 2019-2022 working closely with Lahav Shani, and in 2021 he was invited to Tanglewood as one of the Festival's two Conducting Fellows.
