Equally at home in symphonic and operatic repertoire, Van Rechem has already made his full operatic debut leading a new production of Carmen at Theater Nordhausen, and in the 25/26 season will return to the Opéra de Rouen to lead eleven performances of Turandot. This will be Van Rechem’s third visit to the opera orchestra in one year, after successful performances on a regional tour, and in their subscription season stepping in for their Music Director with Stéphane Degout. Elsewhere in the 25/26 season, he will make debuts with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and Munich Symphony Orchestra, and return to the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. In his native France, he will lead the Opéra de Saint Etienne, the Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France the Opéra de Marseille, and make his debut at the Strasbourg Festival with the Strasbourg Philharmonic.
Other recent highlights include performances with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Jena Philharmonic, Orchestre national Montpellier, Opéra de Limoges, Orchestre Victor Hugo, Orchestre National de Metz, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liége, Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Orchestre de Chambre de Luxembourg. In recent seasons Van Rechem has also conducted Orchestre National de Lille in his hometown and as part of their regional tour, as well as projects with the MDR-Sinfonieorchester, the Nord Nederland Orkest and the Hradec Králové Philharmonic.
Passionate about contemporary music, Van Rechem has founded his own ensemble Les Parnassiens, which specialises in early twentieth-century repertoire for chamber orchestra. He was also selected as part of the Lucerne Festival's Conducting Fellowship in 2021, working with composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Dieter Ammann and Enno Poppe, and conducting a number of premieres. As an assistant conductor he has worked with Antony Hermus, Karel Deseure, Nicolas Pasquet and Ariane Matiakh, and has conducted youth orchestras such as the Orchestre Français des Jeunes, the Bundesjugendorchester, the Landesjugendsinfonieorchester Hessen and the Hanze Symphony Orchestra. In early 2024, Van Rechem was shortlisted in the conductor category for the 31èmes Victoires de la Musique Classique alongside Marie Jacquot and Léo Margue. In September 2024, he joined the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris, where he assists on several productions throughout the next two seasons.
Van Rechem studied percussion at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and has played with ensembles including the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, and the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Limoges. Originally from Lille, Van Rechem studied orchestral conducting with Jean-Sébastien Béreau, and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Antony Hermus, Karel Deseure, and Ed Spanjaard. He completed his master's degree with Nicolás Pasquet and Ekhart Wycik at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar. In 2024, he was selected to participate in the Ammodo Conducting Masterclass with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with Paavo Järvi.
