This season, Romero makes his house and role debut as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème with the Opéra National de Lorraine. The production goes on tour, with further house debuts including Théâtre de Caen, Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Opéra de Dijon & Opéra de Reims. He joins the Wiener Staatsoper on tour to Japan where he reprises the role of Ein Sänger Der Rosenkavalier in performances at the Tokyo Metropolitan Festival Hall. On the concert platform, Romero makes his debut with the Munich Philharmonic in performances of Beethoven Symphony no. 9 conducted by Eva Ollikainen.
Since making his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in the 2022/23 season, Romero has returned each subsequent season to reprise the role of Ein Sänger Der Rosenkavalier. Other recent highlights include Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Gran Sacerdote in Mozart’s Idomeneo with De Nationale Opera, Pirelli in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd with Austin Opera, as well as Monostatos Die Zauberflöte & Ruiz Il Trovatore with Central City Opera. Romero was a Resident Artist at Pittsburgh Opera, where roles included Ferrando Così fan tutte and Oronte in Handel’s Alcina.
Recent concert highlights include a performance of Beethoven Symphony No. 9 under the baton of Marin Alsop, and appearances in Bernstein's Candide with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony. In 2021, Romero was a semi-finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition and a Winner of the Eleonor MacCollum Competition.
Originally from Houston, Romero completed his studies at Yale University and Houston Baptist University where he performed roles including Tamino Die Zauberflöte, Fisherman in Stravinsky's Le Rossignol and Triquet Eugene Onegin during his studies.
