Ben Glassberg

Conductor
Music Director, Volksoper Wien
Music Director, Opéra de Rouen Normandie

  • British conductor Ben Glassberg is fast becoming one of the most sought after conductors on the global stage. Described as conducting with ‘irresistible panache’ (The Guardian), his highly detailed and sophisticated interpretations of vast repertoire on both the operatic and concert platform are revelatory.

As Music Director of the Volksoper Wien (since January 2024) and Opéra de Rouen Normandie (since the 2020/21 season), forthcoming operatic highlights include Mozart Die Zauberflöte, Bizet Carmen, Mozart La Clemenza di Tito, Humperdink Hansel und Gretel, Mozart Le Nozze di Figaro, Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos and Poulenc Dialogues des Carmelites. Glassberg will make his house debuts at Hamburg State Opera with Mozart La Clemenza di Tito and Zurich Opera House with Lehár Die lustige Witwe.

"Glassberg conducts with irresistible panache, and there’s some fabulously detailed playing from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Immensely enjoyable, and the best Don Pasquale I’ve ever heard."

The Guardian, July 2022

"If there's a reason to see this revival, it's for conductor Ben Glassberg who drew out a truly glorious performance from the ENO Orchestra. He's a natural fit for this repertoire, with just the right amount of rubato to avoid sounding sentimental. I've rarely heard the orchestra sound this luxuriant…Let’s hope ENO brings him back."
