  • Engagements for the 2026/27 season include Heerrufer des Königs in Lohengrin for the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Jochanaan in Salome for his debut with the New National Theatre, Tokyo and the title role of Don Giovanni for the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. In concert he debuts the role of Bluebeard in Bluebeard’s Castle with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, performs Rachmaninov’s The Bells with the George Enescu Philharmonic and sings his first War Requiem with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.


    Previous opera engagements have included: Heerrufer des Königs in his debut with the Bayerische Staatsoper and for the Hungarian State Opera; Escamillo in Carmen, Heerrufer des Königs, Donner in Das Rheingold and Tchelakov in Boris Godunov at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Orest in Elektra with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Sir Antonio Pappano); Jochanaan at the houses of Hannover, Antwerp, Malmö and Zurich, and in concert for the Bergen International Festival; Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde for Oper Köln, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía and in concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall (Andris Nelsons); title role of Eugene Onegin for the Opéra de Lausanne; Escamillo at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Salzburg Easter Festival, Santa Fe Opera and with the Berlin Philharmonic (recorded for EMI Classics with conductor Sir Simon Rattle); Monterone in Rigoletto, Escamillo and Giorgio Germont for the Bregenzer Festspiele; Scarpia in Tosca with Opéra de Rouen; Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and Escamillo with the Semperoper Dresden; Escamillo, Tomsky in Pique Dame, Eugene Onegin and Figaro for the Lithuanian National Opera; Count in Le nozze di Figaro in Malmö; and the title roles of Aleko and The Demon at La Monnaie. He has also performed with the San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Beijing’s National Centre for Performing Arts, Norwegian Opera, Bergen National Opera, Teatro Municipal Santiago, Opera de Bordeaux, Vilnius City Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival and Teatro alla Scala Milan.  


    Concert performances have included: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Stravinsky’s Les Noces and Shostakovich’s Symphony No.13 at the BBC Proms; Rachmaninov’s Spring with the Hallé (Sir Mark Elder); Bruckner’s Te Deum with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (Lahav Shani); Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater with the London Symphony Orchestra (Valery Gergiev), City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (Edward Gardner) and Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin; Dvorak’s Te Deum with the Orchestre de Paris; Rachmaninov’s The Bells with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra; Aleko with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester; Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (Eva Ollikainen); and an Eastern European tour with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Karel Mark Chichon. He recorded the role of Pietro in Simon Boccanegra alongside Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Ildar Abdrazakov and Barbara Frittoli. 


    Smoriginas studied at the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy before representing Lithuania at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He graduated from the Royal College of Music and was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House.
