Hedvig Haugerud

Soprano

  • Hedvig Haugerud graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music, following which she continued her studies at the Conservatoire National et Supérieur de Musique in Paris and then the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. The latest gifted soprano to emerge from the tutelage of Susanna Eken, Haugerud has distinguished herself in this early stage of her career for her exceptional vocal colour, power and personality. Haugerud was second prize winner of the 2023 Paris Opera Competition, Press Jury's Winner at The Mirjam Helin Competition and First Prize winner at the 2024 Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition.

  • Last season, Haugerud performed Grieg Songs on tour to Spain with the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, sang Fourth Maid Elektra in concert with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kirill Petrenko and debuted the title role Salome with Metz Opera. Recent engagements also include Fifth Maid Elektra for the Norwegian Opera under Petr Popelka and The Overseer Elektra in Tcherniakov’s production for the Royal Danish Opera conducted by Thomas Søndergård.


    Previously on stage at the Royal Danish Opera, Hedvig sang Annina in David Radok's La Traviata, and Lady with Hat Box in the world premiere of Dominick Argento's Postcard from Morocco, and she made her debut as Amelia Un ballo in maschera in Sweden, with the Svenka Dagbladet commenting: ‘The sensation of the evening is the young Norwegian soprano Hedvig Haugerud, who with a warm, full voice and strong radiance makes an impressive debut.’


    Haugerud has studied with Anne Sophie von Otter, Bo Skovhus, Soile Isokoski and Randi Stene, and worked with conductors Michael Schønwandt, Richard Farnes, Giancarlo Andretta and Robert Houssart. She was awarded a study grant by the Dobloug Foundation and received the Skagen Talent Award 2019.
