Hedvig Haugerud graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music, following which she continued her studies at the Conservatoire National et Supérieur de Musique in Paris and then the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. The latest gifted soprano to emerge from the tutelage of Susanna Eken, Haugerud has distinguished herself in this early stage of her career for her exceptional vocal colour, power and personality.
With the start to Haugerud’s professional career being delayed by COVID, it is an exciting 2022/23 season ahead and will include Fourth Maid Elektra for the Norwegian Opera under Petr Popelka, and The Overseer Elektra in Tcherniakov’s production for the Royal Danish Opera conducted by Thomas Søndergård. Previously on stage at the Royal Danish Opera, Hedvig sang Annina in David Radok's La traviata, and Lady with Hat Box in the world premiere of Dominick Argento Postcard from Morocco, and she made her debut as Amelia Un ballo in maschera in Sweden last summer, with the Svenska Dagbladet commenting: ‘The sensation of the evening is the young Norwegian soprano Hedvig Haugerud, who with a warm, full voice and strong radiance makes an impressive debut.’
Haugerud has studied with Anne Sophie von Otter, Bo Skovhus, Soile Isokoski and Randi Stene, and worked with conductors Michael Schønwandt, Richard Farnes, Giancarlo Andretta and Robert Houssart. She was awarded a study grant by the Dobloug Foundation and received the Skagen Talent Award 2019.
