Hedvig Haugerud

Soprano

  • Norwegian soprano Hedvig Haugerud emerged from the tutelage of Susanna Eken and has distinguished herself in this early stage of her career for her exceptional vocal colour, power and personality. Her engagements for the 25/26 season include Ortlinde in Die Walküre with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia conducted by Daniel Harding, and her debut with the New National Theatre Tokyo as Chrysothemis in a new staging of Elektra conducted by Kazushi Ono.

  • Elsewhere this season, Haugerud performs Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Vier letzte Lieder with the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra, and Chrysothemis in concerts of Elektra for L'Opéra-Théâtre de Metz. Recent engagements include her debut as the title role of Salome in Metz, Fourth Maid in Elektra with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner, Fifth Maid in Elektra for the Norwegian Opera under Petr Popelka and The Overseer in Tcherniakov’s production of Elektra for the Royal Danish Opera conducted by Thomas Søndergård. Previously on stage at the Royal Danish Opera, Haugerud sang Annina in David Radok's La Traviata and Lady with a Hat Box in Dominick Argento's Postcard from Morocco. She also debuted the role of Amelia in Un ballo in Maschera in Sweden, sang Grieg Songs on tour to Spain with the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and made her recital debut with the 2025 Bregenz Festival.


    Haugerud graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music, followed by the Conservatoire National et Supérieur de Musique in Paris and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, studying with Anne Sophie von Otter, Bo Skovhus, Soile Isokoski and Randi Stene, and working with conductors Michael Schønwandt, Richard Farnes, Giancarlo Andretta and Robert Houssart. She was awarded a study grant by the Dobloug Foundation and received the Skagen Talent Award 2019, and her numerous competition successes have included second prize at the 2023 Paris Opera Competition, Press Jury's Winner at The Mirjam Helin Competition and First Prize at the 2024 Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition.
